Being asked about Mr. Lee Suhyun, who died
to save a drunk who had fallen on the tracks
of a subway, he said as follows.
어학연수를 하던 중 지하철 선로에 떨어진
취객을 구하려다 목숨을 잃은
고 이수현씨의 관해 묻는 질문에
"Mr. Lee Suhyun lost his life due to righteous
action and I did it just because it was my duty."
"이수현씨는 의로운 일을 하고 목숨을 잃은 것이고
저는 제가 하는 일이 그것이었을 뿐입니다."
In an interview with a newspaper,
Mr. Kim Haingkyun, who saved a child being about
to be hit by a train, lost his legs in 2003, said.
이 말은 2003년 열차에 치일 뻔한
아이를 구하다 두 다리를 잃은
김행균씨가 모 일간 신문의 인터뷰에서 한 말입니다.
He is now a Yeokgeok stationmaster,
living an ordinary life.
현재는 역곡역장으로 있으면서
우리가 생활하는 그 일상과 전혀 다를 바 없이
생활하고 있습니다.
I imagine village boys and girls from his appearance,
who play jacks under the ceiling of a thatched
cottage, enjoying the sunshine.
마치 초가집 담 밑에서 따스한 햇살을 받아
오순도순 공기놀이하는 동네 아이들의 모습처럼...
I thought about his pain after the accident.
사고 이후 두 발목을 크게 다치고
한쪽 다리를 절단한 김행균씨의
아픔을 잠시 생각해봅니다.
How much pain does he suffer from now?
Perhaps everyday is painful for him.
사고 순간 얼마나 아팠겠습니까?
하루하루가 얼마나 고통스러웠겠습니까?
However, Mr. Kim Haingkyun stated that those times
of extreme pain to be an 'ordinary thing' calmly,
as if the sun rises and falls everyday.
하지만 이 모든 극한 아픔과
수많은 절규를 외치며 지나온 시간들을
김행균씨는 담담하게 '일상'이라는 표현으로
자신을 한 마디로 정리해버렸습니다.
해가 뜨고 해가 지는 순리를 담담하게 받아들이듯....
