Dear my friends,
Yesterday, my daughter and I went to Campsie to meet Clara. It started to rain heavily just as we arrived at Campsie. As a result, we had to run on the street. Soon, we found Clara and her younger sister on the opposite road.
Together, we went to a Korean restaurant to have lunch. At there, we started to talk about our past time that we spent together in Korea. It was March 2000 when we first met at the citizen college. We used to have lunch together and talked about many things after our English class at the citizen college.
She studied literature in university. She makes me laugh with her humorous way of telling stories. Amongst four of her children, one is boy and three are daughters. She lives alone in Australia. Clara has experiences over a wide area, because she lived in Japan, Australia as well as in Germany.
On the other hand, my life was confined to a school for the last forty years. In a way, it was a simple life.
I like Clara, as she is good at singing, dancing and making me laugh. Also, she is very clever. She has already planned for the rest of her life, even her death. She does not wish to rely on the other people. Her independent nature makes me respect her. I believe not many people can be like her.
Yesterday night, my daughter’s family and I wanted a movie called Waterloo Bridge (애수). The main actress is Vivien Leigh and the main actor is Robert Taylor in that movie. They are my favourite actor and actress. The film was made in 1940. It is as old as myself. Below is the letter that Vivien wrote to Robert in the film.
You have been more to me than I will ever say in words. But there is no future for us. I am grateful to you for what you are and for what you have meant to me. I cannot write. Good-bye, my dearest darling
Through this letter, one can experience her sincere love for Robert. I could sympathise with her and was myself, heartbroken as Vivien’s situation leads her to commit the suicide.
Even after I awoke this morning, the story was still vivid in my mind. I’m sure all of you have watched this film before. However I highly recommend you to watch it again so that the film can touch your hearts once again just like it touched mine yesterday.
