An old Cherokee man lectured his grandson on life.
한 체로키 노인이 손자에게 삶에 대해
가르치고 있었습니다.
"We usually get through battles in our mind."
he said to his grandson. "These battles are awful
just like a fight between too wolves."
"마음속에서는 늘 싸움이 일어난단다."
그는 손자에게 말했습니다.
"너무 끔찍한 싸움이어서
마치 두 마리 늑대가 싸우는 것과도 같단다."
“One is a bad wolf having anger, jealousy, grief,
regret, greed, arrogance, resentment, self-pity,
guilt, inferiority complex, lie, vanity, boasting,
which represents our pseudo ego.
"하나는 악마 같은 놈인데
분노, 질투, 슬픔, 후회, 탐욕, 교만, 분개, 자기연민,
죄의식, 열등감, 거짓, 허영, 잘난 체하고
자신의 거짓자아를 나타낸단다.
Another wolf is a good one. This wolf presents joy,
peace, love, hope, kindness, good intention, calmness,
modesty, sympathy, generosity, honesty, compassion,
and confidence.
또 다른 놈은 선한 놈이지.
이놈은 기쁨, 평화, 사랑, 희망, 친절, 선의, 고요함,
겸손함, 동정심, 관대함, 진실, 연민, 신뢰를 나타낸단다.
The fight between the two wolves occurs in your
mind as well as other people's mind."
이 같은 싸움이 네 안에서도 일어나고
모든 사람의 마음에서도 일어난단다."
The grandson thought about the old man's
saying for a little while and asked.
"Which one is the winner?"
The old Cherokee man replied briefly.
손자는 잠시 동안 그 말을 생각하다가
할아버지에게 물었습니다.
"그럼 어떤 늑대가 이기나요?"
체로키 노인은 간단하게 대답했습니다.
'The one that you feed is the winner."
"네가 먹이를 주는 놈이 이긴단다." |
