Here is an episode from a few days ago.
An old woman with a heavy bag got on a bus.
She searched her bag for the fare, putting
her bag on the bus floor. But there was no money.
얼마 전 있었던 일입니다.
무거운 짐을 든 할머니 한 분이 버스를 탔습니다.
버스에 올라 선 할머니는 바닥에 짐을 내려놓고
차비를 내기 위해 가방을 뒤졌습니다.
하지만, 돈은 없었습니다.
She approached the bus driver and said. "I'm so
sorry but I have no money." The bus driver's face
became rigid when he heard this. He got angry
and stopped the bus. "Ma’am, why did you get on
the bus without money? Get off the bus!"
할머니는 버스운전기사에게 다가가
"기사양반 미안한데 돈이 없구려..." 라고 말했습니다.
말을 듣자마자 운전기사의 얼굴이 순식간에 굳어졌습니다.
그리고는 차도 출발시키지 않고서, 화를 내기 시작했습니다.
"할머니, 돈도 없는데 왜 타요! 내리세요.!"
She continued to say sorry. There were a lot of
people on their way to work on the bus. Some were
angry like the bus driver and urged the driver
to start the bus. Some just grumbled and demanded
she get off the bus.
할머니는 무안해서 계속 미안하다고만 했고,
마침 출근길인 손님들도 많았습니다.
손님 중에는 운전기사처럼 화를 내며
그냥 출발하라는 사람도 있었고,
할머니더러 내리라며 툴툴거리는 사람들도 있었습니다.
Then a high school student took a ten thousand
won from his pocket and put it into the fare box
and said to the bus driver,
바로 그때,
한 고등학생이 주머니에서 만원을 꺼내 요금 함에 넣으면서
버스기사에게 이렇게 말했습니다.
"Hey, this is for her and other passengers
without money. If you meet another passenger
without money like her, don't get angry.
Use the left over fare to make up their fare.
"이걸로 할머니 차비하시고,
또 이렇게 돈 없는 분들 타시면
아까처럼 화내지 말고
남은 돈으로 그 분들 차비해 주세요."
At that moment, calmness came over and
the driver started the bus without a word.
순간 버스 안은 조용해졌고,
버스 기사는 아무 말 없이 차를 출발시켰습니다. |
